Nine Wildcats Named To 2020 Tri-County Weekend/Courier Express Football All-Star Team (Posted 11/28/20)

The Tri-County Weekend and Courier Express newspapers from DuBois announced their 2020 Football All-Star Team, in the Saturday, November 28th edition of the TCW, and Nine Central Clarion Wildcats were selected.

The Wildcats team, who are recently completed their first season, is comprised of players from Clarion Area, North Clarion and Clarion-Limestone. Clarion-Limestone joined the Clarion Area – North Clarion co-op in 2019, which played as the Clarion Area Bobcats for one last time.

In addition to Central Clarion, this year’s Tri-County/Courier Express Football All-Star Team included players from Brockway, Brookville, Clearfield, Curwensville, DuBois, Elk County Catholic, Redbank Valley, Ridgway and St. Marys.

Central had six First Team selectees, three Second Teamers and one Honorable Mention.

Three Wildcats made the First Team on Offense, all seniors, Calvin German (1,884 yards, 110 completions/212 attempts, 22 touchdowns, and only 8 interceptions) at quarterback, Ethan Burford (37 catches for 809 yards and 10 touchdowns) at wide receiver and Logan Lerch (part of line that allowed Central to have TCW/CE area’s second leading passing attack – 272.4 yards per game, the third leading total offense – 377.4 yards per game and scoring average – 33.4 points per game) on the line. Logan had 25 pancake blocks.

The Wildcats also had three First Team selections on Defense. Senior Cutter Boggess (second in tackles on team, with 63 including 45 solo, 3 sacks, 1 interception and 1 caused fumble) was named as an athlete, senior Beau Verdill (11 punts, 35.5 average, three inside opponents 20 yard line) was given the nod as the punter and junior Koaz Baker (team leading 67 tackles, including 37 solo, with a sack, two fumbles caused and two fumble recoveries) was selected on the line.

Second Team Offensive selectees for the Central include senior lineman Jordan McCord-Wolbert (part of that line that allowed Central to have TCW/CE area’s second leading passing attack – 272.4 yards per game, the third leading total offense – 377.4 yards per game and scoring average – 33.4 points per game) and junior running back Breckin Rex (57 carries for 376 yards and 2 touchdowns, 5 catches 52 yards and 1 touchdown).

Junior Cooper Shall (63 tackles including 36 solo, 3 tackles for loss, 1 interception  and 1 fumble recovery) was named to the Second Team Defense as a defensive back.

Senior Jason Ganoe (6 catches for 63 yards. 36 tackles including 24 solo, 2 interceptions, 9 passes defended, 1 fumble recovered and 1 fumble caused) was given an Honorable Mention nod.

The 2020 TCW/CE Player of the Year was Jack Krug from Brookville. Redbank Valley’s Blaine Gold was named Coach of the Year.
