Basketball: Lady Cats Down Cranberry On Senior Night

The Clarion Area Lady Cats defeated the visiting Cranberry Lady Berries 56-47, in KSAC Basketball action, on Senior Night, on Monday (March 1st).

Cranberry jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first, but baskets by Rebekah Ketner and Erica Selfridge, at the end of the period, brought the Bobcats to within four, at 10-6.

The Berries opened the second with a 5-0 run, upping their lead to 15-6, but with a pair of free throws by Jordan Best, a three-pointer by Selfridge and a basket by Noel Anthony, Clarion was within three, at 15-12. Cranberry finished the half with an 11-2 run, to lead 26-16 at the break.

Clarion honored seniors Ava Cherico and Erica Selfridge and their parents during a half-time ceremony.

With two baskets to start the third quarter, the Berries upped their lead to 30-16. A free-throw by Best and a trey followed by a two-point Basket by Selfridge had the Cats within eight, at 30-22. After another Cranberry basket, Clarion went on a 9-0 run, with a basket by Ava Cherico pulling the Cats to within one, 32-31. Another basket by the Berries, closed out the period, with Cranberry up 34-31.

Cranberry was up 40-35, in the fourth, when Selfridge hit back-to-back three-pointers, to give the Bobcats their first lead of the game at 41-40. The Lady Cats went up for good at 47-45 on a basket by Selfridge. That basket was the start of an 11-2 run to finish out the game, the final points coming on a basket by Payton Simko, setting the final at 56-47, Clarion.

Selfridge led Clarion with a game-high twenty-four points. Best and Anthony had 9 points each. Simko scored 6 points, Cherico had 4 points, and Ketner and Taylor Alston contributed two points each.

Ava Ferringer led Cranberry with twenty-two points.
