Wrestling: Bobcats Tie Wolverines 33-33, But Fall By Criteria

The Clarion Area Bobcat Wrestlers hosted the Sheffield Wolverines, on Tuesday (January 5th), with the teams tying 33-33, but the Wolverines claimed a 34-33 win, being awarded one point on criteria, based on having fewer forfeit losses.

The match started with Logan Edmonds (215) getting a forfeit for the Bobcats, for a 6-0 lead. Josh Beal (285) lost a close 3-2 decision to Sheffield’s Danah Campbell and Clarion now led 6-3.

The Bobcats’ Logan Powell (106) won by fall over Bryden Letendre at 1:47, moving Clarion’s lead to 12-3. There was a double forfeit at 113.

Forfeit wins by Sheffield at 120 and 126, lifted the Wolverines to a 15-12 lead. The Cats regained the lead, 18-15, when Seth Weckerly claimed a forfeit win at 132. Mason Gourley followed with a 6-3 decision over Sheffield’s Trenton Mead, at 138, giving Clarion a 21-15 lead.

Holden Sparks lost by fall at 1:52, to the Wolverines’ Cooper Traister at 145 and the match was knotted 21-all. Sawyer Andrews won by forfeit at 152, giving Sheffield a 27-21 lead. Landon Mead followed at 160 with a forfeit win for the Wolverines, and Sheffield now led 33-21.

The Bobcats closed out the mat action with a pair of pins, with Breckin Rex defeating Joseph Palmer in 1:48 at 172 and Caleb Edmonds defeating Matt Lobdell in 1:00 at 189.

The Bobcat Junior High Grapplers won their match 54-18.

The Cats are scheduled to visit Ridgway on Thursday (January 6th).
