Clarion Area Cross Country Offering a Number of Summer Activities Featuring the BOBCAT 5K

The Clarion Area Cross Country Team is offering a number of activities this summer, including a
new Elementary Running Club which meets Mondays and Wednesdays 6:15-7:15PM at the
pavilion at the elementary school. Elementary students of all ages are welcome and students in
5th and 6th grade will have some meets in the fall.
The Junior High and Varsity Teams meet at Clarion County Park Monday, Wednesday and Thursday
for summer runs and these too are open to all students entering grades 7-12. Getting in shape,
want to try it out, preparing for another sport, just want to have some fun with your friends and
enjoy some camaraderie and a great, supportive culture, come on out!
The team will also participate in some local road races including the Fleet Feet Liberty Mile in Pittsburgh,
known as America’s Fastest Road Race on Friday evening, July 22nd.

The summer is capped off by the keynote event held on the beautiful and scenic trails at Clarion
County Park on the cross country course, The Bobcat 5K, held on Wednesday, August 3rd, a true
community event; it has something for everyone! Some will walk, some run, others will go for a
medal performance.
There is a ½ mile kids race, where parents can see their kids the whole
race and all runners receive ribbons! The newest addition to the Bobcat 5K is the High School
Preseason Invitational, a chance for teams to get an early start running together on a cross
country course with and against other teams!

The Bobcat 5K is now held on a Wednesday evening so families can enjoy weekend activities
together.

Medals to the age group winners. Another new feature this year is two $150 Brooks Gift
Certificates which will be raffled off courtesy of local runner, coach, and Brooks Running representative
Shawn Burke.

This is one of my favorite events, because of all the things it brings together,
community runners, families running together, a kickoff to fall training camp and young runners!
