Clarion Area’s Mason Gourley Finishes Second In PA USA Wrestling Freestyle And Greco Roman State Tournament, Member Of Pennsylvania Team At Nationals

Clarion Area Bobcat wrestler Mason Gourley, son of Braun and Holly Gourley, captured second place in the 16U – 145 pound weight class, in both the Freestyle and Greco Roman Pennsylvania – USA Wrestling Tournaments. The tournaments were held in the Plex Center at Alvernia University, in Reading, on Friday, June 3rd to Sunday, June 5th.

With his Silver Medal finishes, Mason earned a spot on the Pennsylvania Team, in both Freestyle and Greco Roman, which competed in the USA Wrestling 16U National Duals, which were held Tuesday, June 7th through Saturday, June 11th at the Indoor Sports Center of Mercyhealth Sportscore Two Complex in Loves Park, Illinois, a suburb of Rockford.

Pennsylvania took two teams to nationals in both Freestyle and Greco. Mason was a member of the Pennsylvania Blue Team in Freestyle which finished third.

Pennsylvania Blue came so close to making the finals, falling to Wisconsin Red 37-34 in the semifinals. They rebounded to down California 46-29, in the third place match.

Comparative scores show how close Pennsylvania Blue was to winning it all. Wisconsin Red fell to Ohio, which repeated as 16U Freestyle Champions, on criteria after both teams tied at 35-all.

Mason was also a member of the Pennsylvania Red Team in Greco.

Pennsylvania Blue finished second in Greco, tying California in the championship match, 37-37, but fell on criteria.
