Bobcats Volleyball Team Downs Bulldogs 3-0, In 2022 Home Opener

The Clarion Area Volleyball Team hosted Redbank Valley on Thursday (September 8th), in their home opener and came away with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-12) victory.

With the first set tied at 5-all, the Bobcats broke serve followed by three service points by Taylor Alston to lead 9-5. Shortly after, Clarion was up 9-7. Aryana Girvan had a kill and then went to the line for three service points, giving the Cats a 13-7 lead. Aryana had thirteen kills on the evening. Clarion had a 13-8 edge the rest of the way, in set one. Grace Ochs had three points and Hadley Campbell had two during the run.

The second set was closer, with the Bobcats winning 25-21. Ochs had another four of her team leading sixteen points in the game. Adia Needham, Bri Pierce and Campbell each had a pair of service points in the set.

Clarion Student Section

The Bobcats closed out the win, with a 25-12 win in the third set. Ochs opened with two service points, in a set where the Cats never trailed. Later, Pierce had three service points to put Clarion up 7-2.

With the game progressing, and the Bulldogs bouncing back to trail just two at 10-8, Bobcats, Clarion broke serve, followed by five straight points by Ochs, which included three aces. The Cats now led 16-8. A 9-4 Clarion run, set the final.

Campbell had two points during that span, while Alston closed it out with four straight points.

Coach Shari Campbell had this to say after the match, “

“It’s good to be in our uniform, in our home gym.

“I think you can see all the work that has been put in, over the last couple weeks, has really come to pay in that big win. You got a lot of young kids, a lot of new starters out there. I’m really proud of how they came together as a team.

“You just saw a lot of contribution from everywhere.”

Ochs had a real solid game, with 16 points (6 aces) and fourteen assists. Girvan supplemented her big 13 kill night with 4 points and a dig. Alston also had a big match, with 10 points (2 aces), 10 assist, 6 digs and a pair of kills.

Pierce had 5 points (3 aces) and a dig. Campbell had 3 points (1 ace), 4 kills and six digs. Sophie Babington finished with 2 points (1 ace) and a kill. Needham served for 2 points and had a dig.

Marley Kline registered 4 kills and a dig. Brenna Armstrong had a kill.

Junior Varsity action

Rhiannon Copenhaver came up big in the Junior Varsity contest, for the Bobcats, with 9 points (3 aces), 14 assists, 5 digs and a pair of kills. Lauren Brinkley had 9 points (4 aces) and two kills. Kelsey Best contributed 7 points (1 ace), 8 digs and an assist.

Natalie Durish contributed 11 kills, 4 points (1 ace) and five digs. Anna O’Toole scored 3 points, to go along with 8 digs and four kills. Brinley Kiskadden scored one point.

Clarion’s Varsity will compete in the Wilson Tournament, tomorrow (Saturday, September 10th). Both Varsity and Junior Varsity will host Keystone on Tuesday (September 13th).
