Former Bobcat Standout Korrin Burns Named NEC Volleyball Rookie Of The Week For Third Time; Second In A Row

Former Clarion Bobcat Volleyball Standout Korrin Burns was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week for her outstanding play for the St. Francis University Red Flash, for the week of October 9th to 15th. This is her third Rookie of the Week selection and her second in a row. Korrin’s teammates Emma Fento and Madi Titus were named to the Prime Performers list.

Burns Earns NEC Rookie of the Week; Tyus and Fenton Collect Prime Performers

LORETTO, Pa. – Three Red Flash women’s volleyball players earned the attention of the Northeast Conference (NEC) for the second consecutive week with Korrin Burns (Shippenville, Pa./Clarion Area) being named NEC Rookie of the Week and Emma Fenton (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) and Madi Tyus (Plano, Texas/Bishop Lynch) earning a spot on the NEC Prime Performer list, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Burns earns the NEC Rookie of the Week for the second week in a row and the third time earning the award this season after her stellar performance this past weekend. Burns led the Red Flash as a Rookie this week to collect 32 kills, 20 digs, two blocks and four service aces for a total of 38.0 points over nine sets played this week. On the week, Burns averaged 3.56 kills per set, 2.22 digs per set and 4.22 point per set. The outside hitter earned a double-double in the team’s match to LIU with 12 kills and 16 digs, while earning 20 kills in the team’s win over St. Francis Brooklyn.

Fenton and Tyus also notched their second consecutive NEC Prime Performer recognition this week after of each of their top-notch performances this past weekend. This marks Fenton’s fourth Prime Performer recognition of the season and Tyus’ fifth this season.

Fenton led the Red Flash a setter with 96 assists to average 10.67 assists per set over the nine-set weekend. In addition, the Latrobe Pa., native posted 59 assists in the team’s win over St. Francis Brooklyn, which is just five assists away from her career high.

Tyus led the Red Flash offensively this weekend with 36 kills for an average of 4.00 kills per set. In addition, the outside hitter notched a double-double in both matches this weekend with 13 kills and 16 digs against LIU and 23 kills and 12 digs against St. Francis Brooklyn. Tyus earned three assists, two service aces, 28 digs and 2.0 blocks to record 39.0 points on the week.

The Red Flash will continue conference play at home this weekend by taking on Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday, October 22 at 5:00 p.m.
