Kameron Kerle Wins District Nine Class-AA Golf Championship, Will Advance To States Along With Fellow Bobcats Devon Lauer And Lucas Mitrosky

Clarion Area’s Kameron Kerle was setting in third place, five strokes off the lead of Moniteau’s Jacob Felsing’s 73 and two behind his Bobcat teammate Devon Lauer’s 76, after the opening round of the District Nine Class-AA Golf Championship on Wednesday (September 28th), at Kane Country Club.

The Top 16 golfers in Class-AA advanced from Wednesday’s play to the final round on Saturday (October 1st), at the same location. The Top 6 Class-AA and Top 2 Class-AAA golfers, after both rounds would advance to the PIAA State Championship at the Penn State Blue and White Golf Courses on Monday and Tuesday, October 16th and 17th.

Kameron shot a 74 on day two, for a 152 total, one stroke ahead of Jacob, who shot an 80 for a 153, and two strokes ahead of Devon, who carded a 78 for a 154.

Clarion’s Lucas Mitrosky went 83-78 for a 161, for fourth place.

Moniteau’s Dawson Wallace at 82-83 165 and Cranberry’s Cayden Baker at 82-85 167 finished fifth and sixth respectively, to complete a Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference sweep of positions, to move on to States, in Class-AA.

Bradford’s Jacob Franz won the Class-AAA Title with a 76-74 150 and Allderdice’s Benito Taromina shot a 75-84 159 for second to advance to States.

Three other KSAC golfers competed on Saturday. Clarion-Limestone’s Nick Aaron finished tenth with a two-day (90-82) 172 total. Clarion’s Tanner Miller had an (86-88) 174, for eleventh place. And Clarion-Limestone’s Jordan Hedson carded an (86-93) 179, to finish sixteenth.

Clarion Assistant Coach Jackie Kerle had this to say, “We are very proud of the team! It’s exciting to have 3 players advance to the state tournament (hopefully 4 after tomorrow).***

“They played in some cold weather and had to deal with the wind constantly changing directions throughout their round. It was a very close match the whole day. After the first round Jacob (73) was leading by 5 strokes followed by Devon (76)and then Kameron (78).

“Round two was fun to watch, all the boys in the lead group played some fantastic competitive golf.” 

***(McKayla Kerle will be looking to defend her District Nine Class-AA Girls Title at Coudersport on Monday (October 3rd).
