Bobcat Grapplers Down Chucks 42-30

The Clarion Area Bobcat wrestlers traveled to Punxsutawney on Tuesday (January 10th) and came away with a 42-30 victory.

(Head Coach Lee Weber’s comments are in Bold.)

The contest started at 139, where Brendan Wright picked up a forfeit win, to give the Bobcats a 6-0 lead.

Jacob Henry followed with a win by fall at 145, moving the Cats lead to 12-0. Jake started out slow with a 2-0 lead after 1 but slowly pulled away in the 2nd and 3rd periods and then pinned his opponent at the 4:58 mark.

There was no match at 152. Ben Aaron was out with sickness.

Clarion had an 18-0 lead after Mason Gourley pinned his opponent at 160. Mason also started out slow with a 2-0 lead but his top pressure was too much and earned a pin at 2:56.

Matt Alston lost by fall at 172 as did Gavin Hannold at 189. Clarion’s lead was now 18-12. Matt once again wrestled their best upper weight but went at him fearlessly. Gavin also wrestled a very strong and aggressive wrestler.  He showed his toughness by rebounding to wrestle after he got a call for an illegal slam.

With victories by fall, by Logan Edmonds at 215 and Josh Beal at 285, the Bobcats upped their lead to 30-12. Logan got caught with a takedown early but collected himself and reversed his opponent for a fall at 1:15. Josh made real quick work by getting a fall in 32 seconds!

107-Kaden Ferfuson lost by fall at 107, and the score was now 30-18, Cats. Kaden is getting better every match! He was leading 5-2 against a more experienced wrestler before he was pinned in the second.

Grayson Aaron won by fall at 1:53 in the 114 match. Grayson is a freshman that is starting  to gain confidence.  He came through with a fall.

Punxsutawney got a forfeit win at 121 as Logan Powell didn’t wrestle. Logan was out with an injury.  Hope to be back soon.

Seth Weckerly fell by major decision at 127. Seth showed a lot of heart by fighting for 6 minutes and saved us a team point!  That point ensured us of the team win.  I get just as excited for this type of match as a win by a pin.  He fought to the bitter end.

Zane Vantassel finished the night’s scoring by pinning his opponent in 1:51 at 133. Zane controlled his opponent in a toss up match and pinned him at the end of the 1st period.

Coach Weber was pleased with his team’s overall performance on the night. It was a solid win for us today against the Chucks, a team which just came off beating DuBois.  Even though we had 2 open weight classes, the others pulled together and did their part and then some!  Love the way the team stepped up! It was a great team win for us!

The Bobcats next match will be at home, this Thursday against Ridgway.  Junior High is scheduled to start at 6 PM.

(Good Match, Bobcats!!!! Thanks to Coach Weber for his comments!!)
