Central Clarion Wildcats’ wide receiver/slotback Ashton Rex has been selected to play for the West Squad in the 2023 Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association (PSFCA) Class 1A-3A East/West All-Star Game. Also taking part is Wildcat Head Coach Dave Eggleton, who will be the West’s Offensive Coordinator.

Ashton joins former Wildcats, Ethan Burford and Cutter Boggess who played for the West in the 2021 contest.

Redbank Valley’s long snapper Carsen Rupp will also be on the West Squad.

There are two East/West Games, one for 1A-3A and another for 4A-6A. The East/West Games are the second most prestigious All-Star games in Pennsylvania, after the Big33 Classic, which currently pits Team Pennsylvania against Team Maryland.

Ashton had a spectacular career for the Wildcats. He finished with program season and career records for receptions, yards and touchdowns.

His single season totals from this past season are 63 receptions, 1,556 yards and 13 touchdowns. His career record totals are 84 receptions for 2,001 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Last year all three games were played on Memorial Day weekend. This year the two East/West Games will be held on Sunday, May 21st, with the Big33 being held on Sunday, May 28th (Memorial Day weekend).

All three 2023 PSFCA All-Star games will be played at Bishop McDevitt’s Rocco Ortenzio Stadium, in Harrisburg.

The 1A-3A game is set for 12:00 noon on the 21st, with the 4A-6A game to begin at 5:00 pm and the Big33 is scheduled for 7:00 pm on the 28th.

Ashton had this to say about playing in this prestigious event, “I am very excited to be selected to the East/West All-Star Game. I understand not many people get this opportunity especially being from such a small area. I look forward to representing our team and coaches in the game.”

He shared his gratitude for those who have helped him along the way. “I would like to thank all the Central Clarion Wildcats Coaches and my teammates who over the years pushed me to be the best player I can be. Also, to my parents, brothers, grandparents for being there and supporting me throughout my career.”

Coach Eggleton said, “I am very excited for Ashton to be part of the East/West All-Star game. This is a great culmination to his high school career.

“Ashton leaves Central Clarion with every notable receiving record. He owns the single season touchdown and yardage record as well as the career record. His 1,556 receiving yards last season ranks second all time in District 9. His ability to make big plays will truly be an asset to the West All-Star team. I am also excited to have the opportunity to coach Ashton one more time.

“Ashton is on a short list of players from our program to make the game. He should be proud to receive such an honor. He is going to be competing with the top players in the state of Pennsylvania.”

(Congratulations to Ashton, Coach Eggleton and Carsen on being selected to the West Squad!!!! Thanks to Nate Girvan for his photo!!)
