WPAL “Summer Beast” Returned to DuBois Community Days

The Western Pennsylvania Police Athletic League (WPAL) held the Third Annual WPAL “Summer Beast” of DuBois Community Days on Saturday, June 17th, at the DuBois City Park.

The event was open to lifters of all ages and they were split into divisions by their weight, sex, and age. 

The winner of the Overall Youth Male Division was Brezlin Bruner(9) lifting a total of 280lbs. The Youth Female Bench Only Crown was captured by Marley Kear(10) putting up 60lbs.Taking home the Male 16-19 Overall Title was Mason Fisher with a total of 1200 lbs .Justin Buchanon of Brockway took home the Bench Only Event with a 385 lbs lift.

In the Open Male Division, Paul Bullers of Kersey brought home this year’s crown narrowly beating out Mike Gralla by formula. Paul Butler of Reynoldsville was Third. Their totals were Paul 1900 lbs at 370lbs. Mike 1510lbs at 195 lbs. Paul Butler 1484 lbs at 244 lbs.  Nicole Richards took home the Female Overall Title with a total lift of 700 lbs, and the Submaster Full Power Division (35+) was won by DuBois Native Jason Gatewood putting up 850 lbs.

WPAL Executive Director had this to say “I think my favorite part this year was all of the parent/child combo competitors! So cool to see! Our youngest competitor shattered the record at 9 years old! Great job Brezlin! Congrats to all of the competitors, but especially the first timers and kids! It takes guts to get up there and put your best efforts on display. So these ladies and gentlemen are all winners in my book!” 

All Proceeds went to directly benefit the WPAL Fitness Center in Downtown DuBois which is a part of the Western Pennsylvania Police Athletic League, a 501(c)3 Not for Profit Organization offering free memberships to youth and all first responders.
