Clarion Area Girls Soccer Playing Well; Summary By Coach Schonbachler

(By Clarion Area Coach Chris Schonbachler)

The Clarion Lady Bobcat soccer team made it through a packed end of September schedule that had them playing 4 games in the last week of the month.

A trip to Elk County Catholic ended in disappointment, as the team never found their stride and fell to the Lady Crusaders 4-0.

The following night the team rebounded at home with a victory against the Punxsutawney Lady Chucks.  Clarion found themselves down 1-0 early in the match, but were able to find their game.  Another hat trick from Lexi Coull along with a pair of goals from Alex Leadbetter and a Julianna Wilson goal earned the Ladycats a 6-2 win.

Two days later the team headed to D9 powerhouse Karns City and on a cold rain soaked evening the girls suffered a humbling 8-0 loss.

After a day off the team hosted Ridgway at C-L Stadium Saturday morning.  Once again the Ladycats rebounded well from their previous loss, handing their guests a 7-1 loss.  Lexi Coull turned in an amazing 5 goal performance and Julianna Wilson added a pair of goals as well.

October started with a senior night match against the Forest Area Lady Fires.  Forest defended well through the first half, keeping the Clarion offense off the scoreboard.  As the second half progressed, Alex Leadbetter finally broke the deadlock when she found the back of the net off a Lexi Coull cross.  The Lady Fires regained some momentum later in the half, but Clarion goalkeeper Mercedes Cunningham quickly curbed their gains with a key penalty kick save, her second of the season.  Coull would add a pair of goals to finalize a 3-0 win for Clarion.

The girls ended last week with a trip to Oil City.  Julianna Wilson notched her first hat trick of the season and the duo of Leadbetter and Coull added 2 goals each to earn the team a 7-1 victory.

The Oil City win ensured the team a spot in the D9 playoffs this year.

Lexi Coull’s 2 goals at Oil City brings her season tally to an outstanding 31 goals, a new single season record for the Ladycats.

With a current record of 9-5, the team heads into the final 2 weeks with plenty of challenges.  Three of their last four games are against UAVSL league opponents, then the regular season ends with a trip to Kane.

(Great work, Cats!!!! Thanks to Coach Schonbachler for this summary!!)
