Roundup: C-L Boys Soccer, Clarion Area Girls Volleyball Fall In District Nine Class-A Playoffs

The Clarion-Limestone Lions dropped a District Nine Boys Class-A Soccer semifinal match, 5-1 at home, to the Redbank Valley Redbank Valley Bulldogs, at Wiser Field on Thursday (October 27th) afternoon, while the homestanding Clarion Area Bobcats dropped a straight set (24-26, 17-25, 18-25) District Nine Girls Class-A Volleyball quarterfinal contest to the Oswayo-Valley Green Wave, that evening.

With the losses, the Lions Soccer team and Bobcats’ Volleyball are eliminated from further action.

District Nine Boys Class-A Soccer Semifinal

Redbank Valley’s Owen Clouse had a hat trick with two goals in the first half and another in the second.

Clouse’ first goal came at 33:53. That was followed by Kieran Fricko scoring at 32:14. Then the Clouse’ other first half goal at 14:10, giving the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead heading to halftime.

The Lions’ Thomas Uckert cut the Redbank lead to 3-1, with a goal at 38:44 in the second. Brendan Bettwy had the assist.

Fricko scored at 17:57 and Clouse closed out the scoring with at goal at 9:59, to set the final.

District Nine Girls Class-A Volleyball Semifinal

The Bobcats were up 21-16 in the first set, but with an 8-3 run, the Green Wave tied the score at 24-24. The Wave scored the next four points for the set win.

After O-V broke a 2-all tie, they led the rest of the way in set two.

The Bobcats led 10-6 in the second set, But Oswayo-Valley came back to tie it at 16-all. O-V scored the next point and never trailed the rest of the way, winning the set and the match.

For the Bobcats: Addiwyn Campbell handed out 24 assists, gathered 3 digs and scored five points. Alicyn Burford had 7 points (1 ace), 2 kills and a pair of digs. Rhiannon Copenhaver contributed 5 points (2 aces) and five digs. Sophie Babington registered 4 points, 2 kills and nine digs.

Marley Kline knocked down 12 kills and gathered four digs. Taylor Alston registered 8 digs and two kills. Kelsey Best had 3 points (1 ace) and two digs.

Anna O’Toole scored 3 points, to go along with a pair of assists. Natalie Durish had eight digs. Lacey Lauer added 5 kills and three digs, with Alivia Diehl recording a kill.
