Basketball Roundup: Bobcat Girls Win While Boys Fall To Raiders

Both Clarion Area Bobcat basketball teams were in action against the Brookville Raiders on Monday (January 29th), with the girls downing the visitors 45-40 and the boys falling by one point, 46-45.

Girls Varsity

The Bobcats led after each quarter, 15-9 after one, 24-16 at the half and 29-24 at the end of the third quarter leading to their 45-40 win.

Taylor Alston led Clarion with 16 points, with Marley Kline also scoring in double-figures with thirteen points.

Sophie Babington contributed eight points. Natalie Durish had 5 points, Gia Babington scored 2 points and Alivia Diehl followed with one.

Eden Wonderling led the Raiders with ten points.

Clarion coach Sam Heeter said, “The girls played tremendously hard last night. Brookville is a good team, and we were able to focus on what we wanted to do and limit their scorers. On top of that, we were able to find good shots and take advantage of that by knocking them down.”

Girls Junior Varsity

The Bobcats fell to the Raiders 21-10.

Brookville led 4-1 after one, 7-3 at halftime and 17-3 after three.

Lacy Lauer led Clarion with eight points. Abby Felmlee scored two points.

Clarion is set to host Kane on Thursday (February 1st).

Boys Varsity

The Raiders led after each of the first three periods, 10-7 after one, 29-17 at the half and 40-32 after three, before a 13-6 Bobcat advantage in the fourth set the 46-45 Brookville final.

Gabe Simko led the Bobcats with 8 points, Bryce Brinkley had 7 points, while Devon Lauer and Dauntae Girvan followed with six points. One of Dauntae’s baskets was from long range.

Owen Krieble, Tanner Miller and Derek Smail each scored four points for the Bobcats, with one of Owen’s buckets coming from beyond the arc.

The Bobcats are set to host Venango Catholic on Wednesday (January 31st). There will be no Junior Varsity game.
