Bobcats Fall To Crusaders In D9 Class-A Semifinal, Will Play DCC In Third Place Game

The Clarion Area Bobcats fell to the Elk County Catholic Crusaders 50-39 in their District Nine Girls Class-AA semifinal matchup, on Wednesday (February 28th), at Brookville High School.

The Crusaders led 16-10 after one period, 23-15 at the half and 36-19 after three.

Lacey Lauer led Clarion with eleven points, including three 3-pointers. Taylor Alston followed with nine points. Sophie Babington had five points, with one bucket from behind-the-arc.

Natalie Durish and Alivia Diehl scored two points each.

Sydney Alexander led the Crusaders with 16 points, including two treys. Sami Straub scored 14 points, including two long range buckets and Tori Newton had 12 points.

The Bobcats will face DuBois Central Catholic in the third place game tomorrow (Friday, March 1st), at Brookville High School. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m..

Clarion head coach Sam Heeter shared, “I thought the girls played tremendously hard last night. The effort was never lacking, but we just had a few lapses on doing the little things right. Nonetheless, that’s one of the best teams we’ve played, and we held our own for the better part of three quarters. Now we’re getting ready for DCC again and seeing what we can accomplish come state playoffs.” 

The Crusaders will play the Ridgway Elkers, in the championship game, on Saturday (March 2nd) at Tippin Gymnasium at 2:45 p.m.
