Clarion Boys Basketball Downs Johnsonburg In District 9 Class-A Semifinals, Advance To Championship Game

The number 2 seeded Clarion Area Bobcats had three players with double-figures as they downed number 3 seed Johnsonburg Rams 54-34, in District Nine Class-A Boys semifinal action at Brookville High School on Tuesday (February 27th).

The Bobcats will now advance to the District Nine Class-A final against the number 1 seeded Elk County Catholic Crusaders at PennWest Clarion’s Tippin Gymnasium, on Saturday (March 2nd) at 4:30 p.m. The Crusaders advanced by downing number 4 seed Cameron County 44-32 at St. Marys High School on Tuesday.

Dawson Smail scored 14 points, Devon Lauer had 13 including a pair of treys and Gabe Simko finished with ten.

Clarion jumped out to a 16-6 lead after the first period. Both teams scored thirteen points in the second, to go to halftime with the Bobcats leading 29-19. The third quarter saw each team score nine points, sending the game to the final frame, with Clarion leading 38-28. A 16-6 Clarion edge in the fourth set the final.

Five other players scored for the Bobcats. Kam Merrell had 6 points, Derek Smail scored four points. Owen Kriebel had a long range bucket for 3 points, while Bryce Brinkley and Tanner Miller each had two.

Isaiah Jackson led Johnsonburg with eighteen points.
