Girls Basketball: Bobcats Clinch Berth in KSAC Championship Tournament With Victory Over Berries
The Clarion Area Bobcat Girls basketball team secured a spot in the Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference Championship Tournament, on Tuesday (February 6th), with a 40-27 victory over the visiting Cranberry Berries.
Clarion led 13-6 after one quarter, 23-8 at the half and 29-17 after the third.
Taylor Alston led the way with a game-high eighteen points. Marley Kline also wound up scoring in double-figures with fifteen points.
Sophie Babington scored 4 points, going 4-for-4 from the free throw line, and Lacey Lauer scored three points, sinking a basket from beyond the arc.
Haylie Gregory, with 8 points and Avery Coe, with seven points, including a trey, led the Berries.
Coach Sam Heeter said, “We’re happy to have clinched our spot in the KSAC tournament. We’ve got some work to do over these last few games and get ready for the postseason.”
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________The Bobcats also had a game last Thursday (February 1st), falling at home to the Kane Wolves, 47-35.
The Cats led 11-5 after the first quarter and 15-14 at the half, but the Wolves had an 18-12 advantage in the third, to lead 32-27 heading to the final stanza, where a 15-8 Kane advantage set the final.
Taylor Alston led Clarion with thirteen points. Alivia Diehl followed with 7 points, while Marley Kline and Sophie Babington had five points apiece. Sophie had a three point bucket.
Gia Babington scored 3 points and Natalie Durish recorded two points.
Maya Smith led the Wolves with fifteen points, including a long range bucket. Leah Tigani followed with 13 points and Isabella Saf sank four treys for twelve points.
The Bobcat Junior Varsity fell 25-7.
Kane led 13-3 after one, 15-5 at the half and 20-7 after three.
Lexi Lauer had 5 points for Clarion and Lillie Shirey scored two.
The Bobcats are set to host Redbank Valley on Thursday (February 8th).
