Softball: Wildcats Fall To Gremlins In Nine Innings

The Central Clarion Wildcats dropped a hard fought 12-7, nine inning decision to the visiting Karns City Gremlins at the Clarion-Limestone Sports Complex on Thursday (April 18th).

The Wildcats scored four runs in the bottom of the first and one in the second, while holding the Gremlins off the board in the top each inning, to open up a 5-0 lead.

Karns City cut the Central Clarion lead to one, 5-4, with two unanswered runs in each of the next two innings. Neither team scored in the fifth, but a KC run in the sixth tied the score at 5-all. Both teams put up a pair in the seventh, sending the game to extra innings at 7 runs apiece.

Neither team scored in the eighth, but the Gremlins scored five in their half of the ninth, while holding Central off the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning, to set the final.

Alyssa Wiant had a single and double for the Wildcats, while scoring twice and driving a pair of runners home. Kaylee Smith had three hits and an RBI. Jenna Dunn had two hits, including a double, with two runs scored. Abby Knapp-Greeley singled, doubled and scored a run.

Emiliegh Mahle had one hit, scored a run and had an RBI. Alexa Kitchen singled and drove in a run. Alicyn Burford had a hit and Sam Simpson scored a run.

Central Clarion head coach Joe Lopez had this to say, “A great game of softball. Both teams battled and played the game the right way. Dunn pitched very well and put us in a position to win. Our defense, led by Mahle in centerfield, made plays and kept us in the game.

“Proud of our ladies for their effort and growth!”
