Roundup: Bobcat Baseball Team Defeats Redbank Valley, Wildcat Softball Team Falls To Moniteau

Both the Clarion Area Bobcat baseball and Central Clarion Wildcat Softball teams were in action on Thursday (May 2nd), with the Bobcats downing the homestanding Redbank Valley Bulldogs 15-1 in five innings and the Wildcats dropping a 16-6, five inning contest to the visiting Moniteau Warriors.

Baseball

Dawson Smail had a pair of homers for the Bobcats, driving in five runs, while Matt Alston also homered. He drove in 4 runs and scored once.

Clarion scored three runs in the top of the first, two in both the second and third innings and eight in the fifth. Redbank’s run came in the bottom of the first.

Three players had doubles in the Bobcats 13 hit barrage. Bryce Brinkley had a pair of two baggers and scored twice. Tanner Miller had three hits, including a double, while scoring a run and driving in three. Dauntae Girvan also doubled and scored two runs.

Wyatt Watterson singled and scored a run. Derek Smail singled and had an RBI. Hayden Weber scored 3 runs, Ethan Rex scored twice and Devon Lauer crossed the plate once.

Derek Smail picked up the win in relief, going the final four innings. He gave up just the one run, threw three strikeouts and walked two.

Softball

The Wildcats hung tough, with the Warriors in this game at the Clarion-Limestone Sports Complex.

Neither team scored in the first two innings. Moniteau scored three runs in the top of the third, but Central Clarion came back, with four runs in the bottom of the inning, to take a one run lead.

The Warriors retook the lead with five runs in the fourth, but the Wildcats scored two in their half of the inning and Central was still staying close, with Moniteau up just 8-6. But three unanswered runs in the fourth and five unanswered runs in the fifth, by the Warriors set the final.

The Wildcats had a number of players hitting safely, with four hitting doubles.

Alyssa Wiant doubled and singled, scored a run and plated two runners. Sam Simpson and Jenna Dunn each doubled, singled, scored a run and drove in a run, while Kaylee Smith doubled and scored a run.

Abby Knapp-Greeley and Emileigh Mahle each singled and scored once, while Jesalyn Girt singled and drove in a run.
