Clarion-Limestone’s Brady Pierce and Coach Don Montgomery participated in the NY/PA Corporate Cup Soccer Showcase on Sunday, July 28th at Kane High School. The showcase’s central location is based around the Olean, Bradford area and branches out from there. There are forty-five schools currently involved. The extravaganza included four games between New York and Pennsylvania schools: Boys A, Girls A, Boys B and Girls B. MVP and Sportsmanship Awardees were selected for each team (complete list included below the article).

The final scores were: Girls Silver match: NY 5 PA 0; Boys Silver match: NY 3 PA 1; Girls Gold match: PA 4 NY 3; and the Boys Gold match, which ended in the ever penalty kick shootout. The final in regulation was 2-2 and then after neither team scored in the 10 minutes golden goal period, PA won with a 4-3 PK advantage.

Brady, a junior, played fullback for the Pennsylvania Boys B Team.

Coach Montgomery  was really pleased with Brady’s play. “Brady played a great game. His defending was dominant and at times he joined the offensive attack to create quality scoring chances for his teammates. It’s hard to get into the rhythm of a game where there is a lot of substituting which is what happens in this type of showcase game but, Brady made the most of his playing time. He represented himself and the PA team well.

An assistant coach on both the Boys A and Boys B teams, Coach Montgomery said, “I personally enjoyed getting to better know some of the other coaches and players from our district. Sharing my coaching techniques and learning from them was a great experience. I’m hopeful I will be invited back next year.

Brady shared about this wonderful experience, “It was an amazing experience being able to play alongside accomplished players in the area. To also have my high school coach, Don Montgomery, coaching this team as well was a highlight. Even though our team fell short, I’m grateful for a memorable opportunity.”

U.S. Military representatives and former player participants, representing the U.S. Marines A.J. Edgell and representing the U.S. Navy Sarah Courtney lead Boy Silver match participants to the pitch.

The event organizers said, “Exciting day!  All games were great.  Players played great.  Attendance was good, all food trucks (6 of them) sold out.

“Overall, it was a successful day and a great event!”

(Congratulations Brady, Coach Montgomery and all those who took part in this wonderful event!!!! Thanks to Chuck Jaquith Photography for the great photos!!)
