The Clarion Wildcats boys soccer team hosted the Keystone Panthers on a steamy evening at Clarion-Limestone field. The Wildcats were still hydrating after their 4-0 win against Redbank Bulldogs in the extreme heat two days ago. This time the Wildcats shut out the Panthers 11-0.
The scoring began early in the first minutes of the game when striker Martin Ormeno dished a pass to midfielder Thomas Uckert. Uckert then was able to find midfielder Brenden Bettwy in traffic who took the shot and scored making the game 1-0. Bettwy shot again minutes later and the ball ricocheted off of the goalie right to the foot of Ormeno who shot and scored.
Defender Brady Pierce moved up the field with the ball and assisted midfielder Wyatt Boyden who shot and scored. Midfielder Dany Schweitzer made a cross pass to Boyden who scored again. Boyden moved up the right sideline and lofted a pass over the defense to the left side of the goal where midfielder Layton Dunn scored his first goal of the game making the game 5-0.
Ormeno then was able to dribble through the Keystone defense and scored solo. The Panthers were able to make a counter on offense and took a quality shot on goalie Isaac Lerch who made the stop. Midfielder Nathan Frederick evaded pursuit of the Panthers defense and made a cross pass to Ormeno for his hat trick goal. The half was welcomed by both sides of the ball due to the heat.
The second half saw the Wildcats make adjustments to the offense. Schweitzer scored two consecutive goals. The Panthers had two corner kick opportunities but Lerch was able to control the situation during both attempts. Dunn assisted Frederick for his first goal of the game. Defender Mason Gourley moved up to assist Dunn on his second goal of the game making the final score 11-0 Wildcats.
The Clarion Wildcats will host Karns City in one of their most difficult games of the season Tuesday September 3rd at 7PM.
