The Central Clarion Wildcats defeated the Brookville Raiders 44-0, in District 9 Football League-Region 1 action, on Friday (September 6th), at Wiser Field.
Much of the game, scheduled for a 7:00 pm opening kickoff, which was delayed until around 7:45, was played in inclement conditions. There was another delay, due to lightning right after the Wildcats first touchdown in the first quarter. The contest resumed around 9:30 and ended just after 11:00.
Noah Harrison, who carried the ball five times for 59 yards for the Wildcats, ran for two touchdowns in the first quarter. The first came on a 15 yard run with 3:10 on the clock, with the other coming at 1:47 from 20 yards out. Thomas Uckert was good on both points after, and Central led 14-0 after one.
The Wildcats took that lead to halftime, as neither team scored in the second.
The third quarter saw Central put up twenty-three points.
Quarterback Jase Ferguson, who ran for 90 yards on 7 carries, took the ball in from 43 yards, at 9:11. Uckert was successful and the lead was now 21-0. He then threw to Mason Burford for a 23 yard score at 6:29 and with Uckert’s point after the Wildcats were on top 28-0. Mason Burford caught 7 passes for 104 yards, while Ferguson completed 10-of-13 for 156 yards, 2 touchdowns and no interceptions.
The Wildcat defense came up with a tackle in the Raider endzone, moving the score to 30-0 at 3:48. The final points of the third quarter, came as Ferguson connected with Burford with a 36 yard touchdown and Uckert kicking the extra-point, at 1:49.
One Wildcats score in the final stanza set the 44-0 final, as Alex Love ran the ball in from twenty-four yards out and Brenden Bettwy tacked on the extra point.
The Wildcats gained 323 yards (167 rushing and 156 passing) while holding the Raiders to 132 yards.
Wildcats, Kohen Kemmer and Brady Guth each had a catch for 19 yards, while Ethan Rex had one catch for fourteen yards. Jimmy Kerr and Jesse Siwiecki both had interceptions.
Central Clarion head coach Coach Eggleton shared this about the game, “Tonight’s game was definitely a unique situation with the weather delay. I don’t think I’ve ever been part of anything where we have been delayed so long. I give credit to our players who stayed focused the whole time. Our run game really look good tonight and our defense stepped up and held them and key situations when we need to stops. We also forced several turnovers for which was a key to win the night.”
The undefeated Wildcats are scheduled to travel to West Sunbury, to face Moniteau, next Friday (September 13th).
