Wildcats Girls Soccer Drops Two Games
The Central Clarion Wildcats Soccer Team dropped two contest this week, falling to the homestanding Brockway Rovers 7-0, on Wednesday (September 18th) and to the visiting Forest Area Flames 3-1, at Clarion Area’s Wiser Field, on Thursday (September 19th)
Brockway Match
Brockway had a 3-0 score at half time and added four more goals in the second half.
The Wildcat’s Megan Powell had fourteen saves in the contest.
Central Clarion coach Nicole Oakes commented, “We are battling some injuries and played down with 10 until the last 5 minutes. We began to rotate much better on defense and our wings are tracking back to support the counter attack.
“Over-all I am pleased with the continual progress we are seeing with the girls. We came back from our longest break in game-play so far and I think the time off the field really helped the girls recover after a tough three games last week.”
Forest Area Match
The Wildcats hung tough in this match.
Neither team scored in the first half.
JJ Wilson put Central Clarion on top 1-0, with a goal seven minutes into the second half. The Fires came back with three goals to set the 3-1 final.
Wildcats goalkeeper Powell had twelve saves. Prior to Thursday’s game she was ranked eighth in the state for saves (11.7 saves per each goal allowed).
Goalkeeper saves (Megan Powell) – 12
Coach Oakes had this to say about the contest, “The girls played a solid first half. We had a key player injured in the first, which called for us to adapt and shift our lineup a little bit and we were able to hold composure for most of the second half.
“We lost the second half to corner kicks. We just couldn’t defend the kicks.
“But over-all, our girls should be proud of the way they played.”
The Wildcats are scheduled to travel to St. Marys on Monday (September 23rd), to take on the Flying Dutch.
(Keep up the hard work, Wildcats!!!!)
