Wildcat Grapplers Finish Eighth At Hickory Tournament
The Central Clarion Wildcats competed in the Hickory Wrestling Tournament, held Friday and Saturday, December 6th and 7th, finishing eighth out of twenty-two teams.
Head Coach Braun Gourley, had a depleted squad, as six of the Wildcat wrestlers were out due to playing in the PIAA State Class-AA Football Championship game on Friday.
He said, “We were missing 6 wrestlers due to football. A good problem to have.”
Central Clarion had five place winners, including two seconds, a fourth and two eighths.
Logan Powell finished second at 139, with a 4-1 record.
Mason Gourley was second at 172, also finishing 4-1. Mason also was named to the First Team on the Hickory Tournament All-Academic Team.
Jake Henry came in fourth at 189, with a 3-2 record.
Grayson Aaron finished eighth with at 133, going 4-3.
Dylan Albertine finished eighth at 215, with a 2-3 record.
Also competing for the Wildcats were: Payton Hinton (107), Rae Eisman (127), Wyatt Aaron (127), Kullen Buzza (139), Jimmy Sprague (145) Caleb Hunter (152) and Ben Naser (160).
Coach Gourley shared about the overall reaction of the coaches on the Tournament. “We liked the effort. Made a lot of early season mistakes that we will work on correcting.
“Very pleased with results of sophomore Dylan Albertine. He saw his first varsity action and finished 8th at 215. He was competitive in every match.”
