Logan Powell And Mason Gourley Claim Titles As Wildcats Place Fifth In D9-AA Wrestling Championships; Six Advance To Northwest Regional

The Central Clarion Wildcats finished in fifth place in the District Nine Class-AA Wrestling Tournament which was held at PennWest-Clarion’s Tippin Gymnasium, on Friday and Saturday, February 21st and 22nd, while crowning two champions and advancing six wrestlers.

Clearfield won the Team Championship, with Port Allegany, Brookville, St. Marys and Central Clarion rounding out the Top 5 teams in the sixteen team field.

Mason Gourley won the 160 pound title, going 4-0, with three wins by fall along the way, before he claiming a 4-0 decision over St. Marys’ Jaden Wehler in the championship match. Mason recorded his 100th career win, pinning Avery Bittler in 2:31 of their semifinal match.

Also claiming a championship for the Wildcats was Logan Powell at 139. He went 3-0 and recorded technical falls in his first two matches before downing Clearfield’s Cash Diehl in their championship bout.

Jake Henry secured the third place medal at 172, where he went 3-1, with all of his wins coming by fall.

Also making the medals stand with fourth place finishes and securing a trip to the Northwest Regional Tournament were, Wyatt Aaron at 127, Grayson Aaron at 133 and Hayden Hindman at 285.

Wyatt had a pair of major decision wins. Grayson and Hayden each recorded a decision and a pin for their wins.

Also contributing to the Wildcats’ point total was Jackson Mranvintz who registered a win by fall in the 121 pound division.

Central Clarion head coach Braun Gourley was very pleased, “Great day for the Central Clarion Wildcats!

Logan and Mason both wrestled very well in their finals matches. Logan avenged a loss from earlier in the year. Mason was able to secure his 100th varsity win in the semifinals.

“We were able to advance six wrestlers to the Northwest Regional tournament next Friday and Saturday (February 28th and 29th), in Sharon.”

Brockway’s Parker Pisarchick and Clearfield’s Brady Collins were named Co-Outstanding Wrestlers, while Port Allegany’s B.J. Greenman was selected as Coach of the Year.

Hall of Fame inductees were Keith Pavlekovsky from Redbank Valley and Scott Park from Brookville.
