Mason Gourley And Logan Powell Medal At PIAA Class-AA State Wrestling Championships

Central Clarion Wildcats, Logan Powell each medaled at the PIAA Class-AA Wrestling Championships, held Thursday, March 6th through Saturday, March 8th, at the Giant Center in Hershey.

Mason finished fifth in the 160 pound weight class, with Logan taking third at 139.

Between the two, they collected 21.5 team points, Placing the Wildcats in 24th place out of 111 teams.

Both began action in Championship Round 1 on Thursday, where Logan won by a 15-0 technical fall over Mifflinburg’s Lane Kenamond, while Mason dropped a one-point, 6-5 decision to Hayden Harvey from Montoursville.

Mason then moved to Consolation Round 1, later on Thursday, where he had a 14-1 major decision win over Greenville’s Rudy Gentile.

The Championship Quarterfinals, Consolation Round 2 and Consolation Round 3 were all held on Friday.

Logan lost by pin to Camden Baum from Bishop McDevitt in the Championship Quarterfinals.

In Consolation Round 2, Mason bested Mahanoy’s Rory Dixon 7-0.

Consolation Round 3 saw Logan and Mason both prevailing. Logan registered an 11-0 major decision over Jonathon Bissell from Sharpsville and Mason decisioned Bentworth’s Owen Ivcic 8-3.

The Saturday competition included Consolation Round 4, the Seventh Place Match, Fifth Place Match, Third Place Match and the Championship Match, in that order.

Mason pinned St. Jaden Wehler from St. Mary’s in 6:28 of their Consolation Round 4 bout.

Logan fell by a 12-2 major decision to Conwell-Egan’s Colin Walther, in the Seventh Place Match.

Mason downed Samuel Almedina from Mid Valley 9-1 in their Fifth Place Match.

Logan

Logan started off the tournament with an impressive win setting him up with a tough quarterfinal match.

He lost in the quarters which put him in the blood round with a rematch of the Regional finals a week ago. Logan got pinned in the regional finals but wrestled an excellent match at states winning 11-0. This guaranteed Logan a spot on the podium.

Overall Logan had a great career and senior season for the Wildcats.

We wish him continued success with his collegiate career.

Mason

Mason’s tournament began with a tough loss in the round of 16, 6-5. This began Mason’s journey back to the podium with 4 straight wins.

Mason dropped a match in the consi semi finals which set up an opportunity to wrestle for 5th.
He wrestled an excellent match against a very talented wrestler to end his career with a win and 5th place in the state.

Overall Mason finished 5-2 at the state tournament. A very impressive feat.

Team

The Wildcats finished 24th out of the 111 teams that were represented at the PIAA tournament.
