Clarion County Special Olympics held two special fundraising events this past weekend, during Clarion Summer Fest.
The first event was Miniature Golf, on Saturday (July 5th), with the course provided by Steel City Mobile Mini Golf, that was set up on South 6th Avenue, just off of Main Street, where everyone was invited to play for a donation.

The second fundraiser was a Dine & Donate event, that took place on Sunday (July 6th), at Clarion River Brewing Company, also at the corner of South 6th and Main. Ten percent of all food sales designated for Clarion County Special Olympics will went directly to the local organization.

SOPA Clarion offers their athletes, who hail from throughout the county, various sports, including basketball, volleyball, powerlifting, bowling and golf. They compete in Western Regional and State competitions.
SOPA Clarion representative and coach Tanya Brooks shared, “Steel City was a sponsored event by local organizations and it was golf by donation to SOPA.”

“Being that it was a beautiful holiday weekend with so many activities in the area, the crowd was not as bountiful for Summer Fest, but we will do it again next year on a different day, as the families that did golf really enjoyed it!

“Thank you to CRBC for donating 10% of sales from the “DINE AND DONATE” on Sunday to Clarion County Special Olympics. We appreciate those that did stop by to enjoy the golf and donated.”
Golf Sponsors included: Clarion First United Methodist Church, Knights of Columbus, Fryburg Sportsmans Club, Clarion Rotary, Charles P. Leach Agency, Smathers Real Estate, University Korner, Pizza Pub, Burford Real Estate Services, Huwar Family and Computer Support.

“The idea for the golf is credited to Clarion County Special Olympics Team Lead Emily Brent who has been creating more community exposure opportunities for the local Special Olympic athletes and their families through community service and public education opportunities.”
Emily said, “Thank you to the sponsors and Steel City Mobile Golf. We look forward to seeing everyone again next summer at Summer Fest.”
