Boys Basketball: Bobcats Finish Third In Keystone Tip-off Tournament
The Clarion Area boys basketball team competed in the Keystone Tip-off Tournament on Friday and Saturday (December 5th and 6th), finishing in third place.
The Bobcats fell in their opener to the DuBois Beavers 54-45 on Friday and bounced back to down the host Panthers 73-30 in Saturday’s consolation game.
The Beavers held a 17-9 edge in Friday’s opening round game, and with an 18-14 edge in the second quarter, they led 35-23 at the half. DuBois held a 58-32 lead after three and set the final with a 20-13 fourth quarter edge.
Dylan Smail led the the Bobcats with 16 points, followed by Nathan Frederick’s twelve.
Trey Hooks scored 7 points. Mason Burford, Wyatt Watterson and Parker Miller each had four points.
Quinn O’Neal, and Haden Weber scored two points apiece and Billy Kahle bucketed a free-throw.
Frederick had two buckets from downtown, and Smail and Hooks each had a trey.
Maddox Bennett scored led the Beavers with 25 points, including three long range baskets and Thatcher Hanzley followed with twenty points.
On Saturday, the Bobcats held a 22-6 lead after one and increased their lead to 39-14 at halftime. with a 19-8 Bobcat edge in the third quarter, Clarion led 58-22 heading to the final stanza. The Bobcats had a 15-8 edge in the fourth to set the 73-30 final.
Three players scored in double-digits for the Bobcats. Frederick finished with 17 points, Smail followed with 16 and Hooks had twelve.
Watterson scored 7 points, Miller scored 6 and Weber had five. O’Neal and Burford each scored 4 points, with Luke Rouze and Jonas Wilshire contributing two each.
Hooks, Watterson and Weber each had a trey.
Dom Corcetti led the Panthers with nineteen points.
DuBois won the championsip match, downing Oil City 56-32.
Clarion is scheduled to travel to North Clarion on Friday (October 12th).
