Girls Basketball: Bobcats Hang Tough In Two Close Games

The Clarion Area Bobcats Girls Basketball Team had two games this week. They faced the Forest Area Fires at West Forest High School on Monday (January 5th) and then matched up with the Rocky Grove Orioles on Wednesday (January 7th).

The Bobcats have a very young squad this season. They played hard in both contests, falling just a little short.

The game against Forest Area was close throughout, with the Fires coming away with a five-point 41-36 win.

Forest led 10-6 after one and both teams scored 6 points in the second, sending the game into halftime with the Fires up 19-15.

The Bobcats posted an 11-6 advantage in the third, to take the game to the final stanza with a one-point 26-25 edge. The Fires had a 16-10 edge in the fourth, to set the final.

Neyma Noukouni led the Bobcats with sixteen points, with Alivia Diehl following with twelve.

Jocelyn Galan contributed 4 points, Brooklyn Spence had 3 and Elana Scheftic ended the game with one point.

Jayden Colvin led the Fires with nineteen points.

Clarion fell 23-15 to the Orioles on Wednesday.

Rocky Grove led 14-4 at the half. A 5-3 Rocky Grove edge in the second, had Orioles up 19-7 heading to the fourth.

The Bobcats came back with an 8-4 advantage in the fourth, to set the final.

Kelsey Best led the scoring for Clarion with six points. Elana and Neyma had 4 points each, with Elana recording a three-point bucket. Brooklyn finished the contest with one point.

Clarion Area Head Coach Erin Fox is pleased with the way the team is progressing.

“The girls have continued to work very hard and things are starting to come together for them. Kelsey has stepped up as a leader offensively and Alivia leads our defense every night.

“The other girls are starting to play with more confidence and have learned how to do well in their roles.

“We have had big offensive nights from Neyma and Elena and many of the other girls have found ways to contribute that aren’t recorded in our score book.

“The team overall has found what seems to work for us and is making progress every single day.”

(Keep up the good work, Bobcats!!!!)
