Jake Henry Wins District Nine Wrestling League Championship At 189, Picks Up 100th Win; Four Other Wildcats Also Place

The Central Clarion Wildcat grapplers competed in the District Nine Wrestling League Championships, at St. Marys High School on Saturday, January 3rd, with Jake Henry claiming the title at 189, while Grayson Aaron, Mason Best-Whitmore, Dylan Albertine and Wyatt Aaron also placed.
Jake began his title quest with a forfeit win over Owen Thompson of St. Marys, in Championship Round 2.
He followed that with two first period wins by fall. The first came in the Championship Quarterfinals, as he downed Clark Findley of Cranberry in 0:55. Next Jake pinned Brookville’s Zachery Phillips in 1:19 in the Championship Semifinals.
Jake reached a major milestone with the Semifinal victory, recording his 100th win.
He secured the Gold Medal with an injury default win over Johnsonburg’s Xavier Stockman in the Championship Match. Jake led 7-1 at the time.
Grayson garnered third place at 139.
He began the day with a 17-1 technical fall at 1:59, over Cranberry’s Bradley Smith, in Championship Round 2.
Grayson had a 10-2 major decision over Kahle Larson from Brookville in the Championship Quarterfinals.
He fell 8-3 to Nathan Steger of Ridgway in the Championship Semifinals.
Grayson pinned Redbank Valley’s Tristan Johnston in 2:47 in the Consolation Seminals. He had a rematch with Kahle Larson in the Third Place Match, winning 4-1 and securring the Bronze Medal.
Mason and Dylan each finished in fourth place.
Mason competed at 152. He started by pinning Cranberry’s Ethan Schreffler in 3:12 of their Championship Round 2 bout. Mason pinned Redbank Valley’s Grant Shoemaker in 5:33 in the Championship Quarterfinals.
In the Championship Semifinals, he lost by pinfall to Matt Deeb of DuBois at :51.
Mason came back with a Consolation Semifinal win by pinning Alex Fiero from Johnsonburg in 2:36, before falling 7-4 to Brookville’s Weston McKinney in the Third Place match.
Dylan began by taking a 3-0 decision over Bradford’s Braylon Edwards in the Championship Quarterfinals.
He lost by pin at :51 by Kendahl Hoare of DuBois in the Championship Semifinals, but came back with a 5-0 win over Redbank Valley’s Devon Weckerly in the Consolation Semifinals. He fell by pin to St. Marys’ Jayden Overly in 1:24 of the Third Place Match.
Wyatt went 3 and 2, as he placed fifth at 133. Wyatt’s began with a 15-0 technical fall in 3:26 over Redbank Valley’s Micah Schreckengost in Championship Round 2. He fell to Johnsonburg’s Mario Casilio by fall in 3:53 in the Championship Quarterfinals.
Wyatt won by a pin over Bradford’s Brady Rosendahl in 3:46 of their Consolation Round 3 match.
He followed that with another victory by pin in Consolation Round 4, defeating Brookville’s Gabe Hannah in 2:01, before falling by just one point, 7-6 to Ridgway’s Owen Steger.
Also picking up wins for the Wildcats were Jackson Mranvintz, James Sprague and Ben Naser.
Jackson wrestling at 139 went 2 and 2.
Jackson’s wins came with a Jackson win by injury default over Peyton Geer of DuBois in 2:28 in Championship Round 2 and a 21-3 technical fall over Landon Ruchlewicz from DuBois in 3:49 in Consolation Round 3.
James, wrestling at 145, went 1 and 2. His win came via a 19-5 decision over Jordan Titus from Redbank Valley in Consolation Round 3.
Ben competed at 160, also going 1 and 2. His win also came in Consolation Round 3, where he downed Johnsonburg’s Eli Morris in a 14-0 major decision.
Other Central Clarion wrestlers who competed were: Elizabeth Horn (107), Shuan Roberts (121), Kullen Buzza (133), Katelyn Roberts (133), Tate Allison (139), Trenton Dotterer (145), Kayden Smith (152), Kord Stewart (172), Marlon Lewis (189) and Montgomery Frederick (285).
