Softball: Wildcats Split Double Header With Fires

The Central Clarion Wildcats split a double header with the Forest Area Fires in softball action, at Marienville, on Wednesday (April 8th).

The Wildcats were the visitors and won the first game 7-3.

The Wildcats scored apiece in the top of the first and second innings, while holding the Fires scoreless for a 2-0 lead. Neither team scored in the third. Central Clarion scored one in the fourth and two in the fifth, with Forest failing to score, giving the Wildcats a 5-0 lead.

The Wildcats failed to score in the sixth inning, but the Fires scored three to cut their deficit to 5-3.

Central Clarion put two runners across the plate in the top of the seventh and held Forest off the board, setting the 7-3 final.

Jesalyn Girt singled, doubled and drove in four runs for the Wildcats. Brooke Meals singled, doubled and scored twice. Karlee Mahle had a pair of singles, scored a run and drove in a run.

Meghan Powell singled and scored a run. Ashlyn Clark had a single and an RBI.

Kaylee Smith and Braelyn DeFranco each singled, and Jocelyn Galen each scored a run.

Kaylee Smith picked up the win, fanning fourteen batters.

The Wildcats were the home team for the second game, falling 23-0.

Jesalyn Girt and Brooke Meals each singled for the Wildcats.

Emma Niznik was the winning pitcher for the Flames.
