Bobcats Advance To D9 1A Baseball Championship Game After Downing Gators In Semis

The Clarion Area Bobcats punched their ticket to the District Nine 1A Baseball Championship Game, after defeating the Port Alleghany Gators 12-2 in six innings in their semifinal matchup at Berwind Park in St. Marys, on Thursday (May 21st).

With the victory, the Bobcats move on to face the Elk County Catholic Crusaders, on Memorial Day (Monday, May 25th), at Showers Field in DuBois. The game is scheduled to start at 1:30 pm. ECC downed Dubois Central Catholic 3-2 in their semi.

Port Allegheny opened the game scoring a run in the top of the first, with Clarion answering with three runs in the bottom of the frame for a 3-1 Bobcat lead.

The Cats scored two more in the second, moving their advantage to 5-1, and after scoring a run in both the fourth and fifth inning they moved their lead to 7-1.

The Gators closed the gap to 7-2 as they scored their last run in their half of the sixth. But with 5 runs in the bottom of the inning by the Bobcats, the game ended in in the ten run Mercy Rule.

Evan Kriebel registered a single, a double, 3 RBIs and a run scored for the Bobcats. Ethan Rex had a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Dylan Smail recorded two doubles and and two runs scored.

Wyatt Watterson singled twice, drove in a run and scored twice. Billy Kahle had 2 hits, 2 runs scored and an RBI

Gabe Anderson had a pair of singles and scored once. Carter Hindman’s line included 1 hit, 1 run scored and two runs driven in. Parker Miller had a single and scored once.

The Bobcats outhit the Gators 12-4, with every player in their lineup getting at least one hit and five of them getting two hits.

Winning pitcher Dylan Smail worked all six innings, fanning 7 batters and issuing only one walk.

Aiden Bliss had a double and a homerun, while scoring one of the Gators’ runs. Kellen Veilleux doubled, tripled and scored the other run.
