Bobcat Grapplers Do Well At Bo Woods Invitational (01/07/20)

The Clarion Area Bobcat Wrestlers competed at the Bo Woods Invitational at Indiana, with the team finishing in ninth place out of the eighteen teams competing.

Donavan Edwards finished in third, at 160 pounds. Cutter Boggess and Ben Smith each finished in fourth place, at 170 and 285 respectively.

Taylar Altman recorded a fifth place finish at 138. Colton Zacherl, wrestling at 126 and Logan Edmonds competing at 195 each finished in seventh place.

Coach Brian Luton had this to say about his wrestlers’ performances, “We wanted to compete, be in the Top 5 teams, and maybe have a champ or two. With a healthy group and solid wrestling we felt that was a realistic goal.

“We had some nice moments this weekend. There were some matches that got away from us but we are wrestling hard and I’m proud of the guys. They aren’t satisfied with today but the team is progressing and willing to put in the effort to improve.

“Taylar wrestled a nice tournament and is a really gritty wrestler. He’s still a little rusty from a few seasons off but you can see the potential surfacing. 5th place

“Donavan took the long way to 3rd but wrestled extremely well through the consolations. His in your face style and improved scrambling proved to be the difference this weekend.

“Cutter made some nice improvements this weekend in certain areas and found a few things he’d like to remedy. 4th place

“Ben hasn’t really missed a beat since he’s been back in the room. He’s learning to wrestle a different style at heavyweight, but he’s done a nice job so far. Once he settles in to this weight class, Ben will be exciting to watch. 4th place

“We are a young team but this group carries a large amount of potential with them. I think they are growing into the responsibility of their roles but there are always going to be a few growing pains.

“We want to continue to improve, stay focused and have an expectation to win everyday. We have a tough week coming up and it will be an indicator of what type of character we have as a team. I’m hopeful we can do a lot of maturing in a short amount of time.

“Peyton Means and Caleb Edmonds both won the JV tournament at 170 and 152.”

(Good job, Bobcats!!!!)
