Former Clarion Area Volleyball Standout Korrin Burns Earns Second Northeast Conference Rookie Of The Week Award; Joins Two St. Francis Teammates Earning Weekly Recognition

For the second time this season, former Clarion Area Volleyball standout Korrin Burns has been named Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week, playing for St. Francis University.

The 5′ 11″ Outside Hitter is joined by two other members of the Red Flash, to be recognized by the NEC, recognition, Emma Fenton who was named Player of the Week and Madi Tyus, who earned a spot on the NEC Prime Performer list as did Burns and Fenton.

Fenton and Burns Earn NEC Weekly Awards; Tyus Collects Prime Performer

LORETTO, Pa. – Three Red Flash women’s volleyball players earned the attention of the Northeast Conference (NEC) this week with Emma Fenton (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) being named NEC Player of the Week, Korrin Burns (Shippenville, Pa./Clarion Area) being named NEC Rookie of the Week and Madi Tyus (Plano, Texas/Bishop Lynch) earning a spot on the NEC Prime Performer list, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Fenton’s first NEC Player of the Week award of her career comes after her grand performance this past week to lead the Red Flash a setter. She notched 97 assists on the weekend to average 9.70 assists per set. In addition, Fenton posted 23 digs and two services on the weekend for the Red Flash. The setter also leads NEC action in assists with 180 assists over conference play.

Burns’ NEC Rookie of the Week award is the second for the freshman as the first came earlier this season on September 13. Burns led the Red Flash offensively with 38 kills, while also posting two service aces, two blocks and 20 digs for a total of 41.0 points on the weekend. In addition, the outside hitter had 105 total attacks over two games, while averaging 3.80 kills per set and 4.10 points per set over the ten sets played this week.

Tyus’ fourth NEC Prime Performer of the season comes after the outside hitter notched 34 kills, 15 digs, five service aces and three blocks for a total of 40.5 points for the Red Flash to go 1-1 on the weekend. Tyus also notched 3.40 kills per set over ten sets and had four service aces in the team’s match to Sacred Heart. In addition, the Plano, Texas native collected her 1,000th career dig in the team’s match to Sacred Heart on Saturday. Making her the seventh player in Saint Francis women’s volleyball program history to earn 1,000 digs and the third player to notch both 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career.

Red Flash women’s volleyball will continue conference action in Brooklyn, N.Y. this weekend by taking on LIU on Friday Oct. 14 at 5:00 p.m. and St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 5:00 p.m.
