Korrin Burns Named NEC/Molten Women’s Volleyball Player Of The Week For 4th Time This Season; Also Joins Alexandra Sappia And Kori McClure As NEC/Molten Prime Performers

The Northeast Conference (NCAA Division I) announced their NEC/Molten Women’s Volleyball Awards for Week 5, on Tuesday, September 30th and former Clarion Area Bobcat standout Korrin Burns, now a member of the Saint Francis University Red Flash was named the NEC/Molten Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week.
This is Korrin’s fourth time to be so named, having won the award in weeks 1 through 3 also, tying Skylar Eicher for the most times a Red Flash player has won the award in a single season.
This is the eighth time Korrin, a 5′-10″ senior Outside Hitter earned Player of the Week during her career, passing Megan Taliaferro as the all-time SFU leader. Megan held the record since 1997. This is the eleventh time Korrin has received a weekly conference award in her career.
The NEC opened their conference play in Week 5 and Korrin’s NEC/Molton Player of the Week was earned for her play as the Red Flash visited the Central Connecticut State University Blue Devils, at Detrick Gymnasium in New Britain on Friday and Saturday, September 26th – 27th.
Saint Francis won in straight sets on Friday (25-23, 25-23, 28-26). Korrin had 13 kills and 13 digs, giving her 20 career double-doubles.
The Red Flash won in five sets on Saturday (26-24, 24-26, 25-22, 23-25, 15-13). Korrin had 28 kills in that one.
Her totals for the weekend include: 44 kills, 23 digs and four blocks.
She leads the nation with 5.21 kills per set and is second nationally in two other categories, with 271 total kills and 287.5 points.
Korrin was also selected as a NEC/Molten Prime Player, joining SFU teammates Kori McClure and Alexandra Sappia.
Kori a senior Middle Blocker, was also instrumental in leading the Red Flash offense over the weekend, with 18 kills, with 10 coming Friday’s match. She also achieved a career-high eight blocks in Saturday’s contest. She led all NEC players with a .516 hitting percentage.
Alexandra tallied 87 assists, 10.88 per set and 18 digs as her impressive play was a significant factor in the Red Flash win.
Saint Francis continues its conference play as it heads back to Connecticut to face New Haven on October 10 and 11.
Joining Korrin in NEC/Molten Top Awards were New Haven’s Josie Foster – Defensive Player of the Week and Stonehill’s Kendra Sawyer – Rookie of the Week.
