Two Reasons To Celebrate – Bobcat Girls Basketball Team Records First Win Of The Season, Down Golden Tide On Senior Night
It was a very special night for the Clarion Area Bobcat Girls basketball team in more ways than one as they hosted the Curwensville Golden Tide on Monday, February 9th.
The Bobcats downed the Tide 41-22 for their first win of the season on Senior Night, where they honored their two senior players, Kelsey Best and Alivia Diehl, as well as senior cheerleader Willow Foust.
(Clarion Sports Zone is planning a separate Senior Night article, with a number of photos.)
The Bobcats led after each period.
They led 14-3 after the first. Curwensville had a 6-5 edge in the second and the Bobcats took a ten point lead to the locker room at the half.
A 10-7 Clarion advantage in the third, had Clarion up 29-16, with a 12-6 Bobcat advantage in the fourth setting the final.
Alivia led the Bobcat scoring, with a game-high ten points. Neyma Noukouni followed with eight.
Kelsey registered 6 points, as did Elena Scheftic, with both girls hitting a three-point basket.
Jocelyn Galan and Lainey Wright hit for 4 points, with Brooklyn Spence scoring three.
Bobcat Head Coach Erin Fox shared, “These girls deserve to be celebrated for their hard work and their commitment to each other this year.
“This year has been a challenging year for every member of our team. We are a very young team with limited experience. We started the year with 7 of our 9 players having no varsity basketball experience.
“We have had to learn to adjust and adapt each game. Every member of the team has bought into what we are trying to do as a program and have made great progress this year. They’ve been thrown into tough games and challenging situations all year and they embraced the challenge every time. They have learned to play new positions and learned how to play together.
“Every single member of our team has gotten so much better this year and we are excited to continue to get better this off season.”
(Congratulations to Kelsey, Alivia, Willow and All the Bobcats!!!!)
