The Central Pennsylvania Football Coaches Association’s (CPFCA) held the 42nd Annual Lezzer Lumber Classic All-Star Football Game at Mifflin County High School’s Donald Chapman III Stadium on Friday, June 19th, with the North defeating the South 16-8.
The Lezzer Lumber Classic, which is one of the longest running regional all-star games in the state, has players from schools from every Classification (1a-6a) participate in the game.
The North Game Director was former Clarion Area and Central Clarion game Larry Wiser. Tom Shearer was the South Game Director.
The District 9 League had another representative, in DuBois quarterback/defensive back Trey Wingard. Clearfield which is located in District 9, but plays in the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference, was represented by wide reciever Cooper Broad.
Pennsylvania Football News’ Shane Lux described how everything set up to have Charlie make the decisive play, that He’ll remember for the rest of his life.
“In the third quarter, Hollidaysburg’s Cole DeLattre threw a 56 yard pass over the middle to Tyrone’s Brayden Parsons threw a which helped set the South up in the red zone.
“The drive stalled out however, with the South set up at the ten yard line, when defensive MVP Charlie Hepfl came up with the interception which put the game away, as the North ate up the final 10 minutes of game.”
North Head Coach Chase Hill, from Glendale, was exhuberant in his praise of Charie and the whole North defense, In a quote in the Altoona Mirror, Coach Hill said, “Our defense up front ate up their gaps. Our inside backers played outside of their mind.
“(Defensive MVP) Charlie (Hepfl) from Central Clarion is an absolute dog. All week in practice he was making my life hard any time we tried to run on him.
“Our secondary was pretty locked down. If they got a catch, they did a good job limiting the yards after the catch.”

Central Clarion Head Coach Davey Eggleton shared this about his Wildcat trio.
“Charlie, Brant, and Brynden represented our program very well. It was awesome seeing all three guys on the field together and making significant contributions to the North’s victory.
“They displayed the reasons they have had such a successful career for our program. I am very proud of their efforts and output on the field.
“Charlie receiving the Defensive MVP is very fitting as he is one of the best linebackers I have had the privilege of coaching.”
