DE Sports Players And Coaches Honored At Awards Picnic (07/22/15)
Clarion’s Big League Division Baseball Team, DE Sports was honored at their season ending Awards Picnic, at Clarion County Park, on Monday evening (July 20th).
Manager Lee Weber conducted the ceremonies. He began by mentioning some of the 2015 State Runner-up team’s highlights: They had a 16-2 season record;the team was undefeated in league play and were District 25 Champions; the only two games they lost were to State Champion, Kennett Square (DE Sports went 1-2 against them in the State Tournament); they beat Kennett Square 8-6, in the first game of the finals, while facing their best pitcher.
Coach Weber highlighted the fact that the team had great pitching and defense during the season.
After the highlights were presented, a banner recognizing the team as District 25 Champions and State Runners-up was unfurled.
The banner, which includes each player and manager and coaches name, will fly at the Junior League field at Paul A. Weaver Park.
Coach Weber then handed out Award Baseballs to the members of the team, while mentioning some of their individual highlight and statistics.
This seasons awardees are:
Jake Zacherl – Mr. Team Player
Ryan Anthony – Defensive MVP – Infield
Reed Anthony – Mr. Calm
Sam Leadbetter – Slugger Award
Mason Rearick – Mr. Hustle
Leo Aiello – The Wall Award
Brendan Miller – Mr. Game Changer
Spencer Miller – Rookie of the Year
Derek Lauer – Mr. Clutch
Adrian Weber – Mr. Highly Consistent
Thomas Plummer – Defensive MVP – Outfield
Max Lane – Mr. Baseball
Two of the players are going on to play college ball. Plummer will be playing ball at Penn State – DuBois and Lane will playing be at Carleton College in Northfield Minnesota.
Coaches for this season were: Jeff Aiello, Andrew Waugaman, Scott “Scooter” Miller, Drew Vandermeer and Rich Lane.
Coach Waugaman said that the the team received compliments from State Meet officials and other coaches for being so well behaved and so respectful. He also gave compliments to Coach Weber on his tireless work for the team.
