Clarion Sixth Grade Basketball Team Drops Monday Night Rematch To C-L (02/07/14)

The 6th Grade Clarion Bobcats took on a team from Clarion-Limestone at Joe’s Gym on February 3, 2014 in a Monday Night Basketball League rematch. And, much like their game the preceding week, Clarion-Limestone again came away with a seven point victory, this time by a score of 26-19.

Clarion jumped out to an early six point first half lead, propelled by two baskets from Tyler Schmader and a bucket from Josh Craig. Down 6-0, Clarion-Limestone scored nine of the next eleven points, including seven by Deion Deas, to take a 9-8 lead. Skylar Rhoades, Lake Staub, and Josh Craig each scored baskets in the final five minutes of the half to send Clarion into the intermission leading 14-11. During the first half Clarion was paced by 4 points apiece from both Schmader and Craig, while Deas accounted for 9 of Clarion-Limestone’s total.

Clarion-Limestone came out hot to start the second half, reeling off eight points to Clarion’s two, in the first five minutes and grabbing possession of a 19-16 lead. It was Bowen Dame with four points doing most of the damage for Clarion-Limestone. During the final ten minutes of play Clarion could only muster three points on foul shots by Nate Datko while Clarion-Limestone scored seven more to clinch their 26-19 victory. Datko’s 3 points were tops for Clarion in the second half, with Deas accounting for 7 points and Dame 6 for Clarion-Limestone.

Craig led all Clarion scorers with 6 points, with Schmader chipping in 4 and Datko 3 (all on foul shots). Nick Frederick, Rhoades, and Staub finished with 2 points apiece.  Billy Huffman and Ben Murtha also saw action for Clarion.
Deas was the top scorer for Clarion-Limestone with 16 points, which included a 3-pointer and 3 foul shots. Bowen Dame had 6 points in the winning effort, with Curvin Goheen and Mitch Knepp each contributing 2. Also contributing for Clarion-Limestone were Austin Coull, Kaden Park, Braden Rankin, and Hayden Sigel.

The 6th Grade Clarion Bobcat basketball team will be back in action on Monday, February 10th at 7:00.
