Jon Kemmer Drafted By The Astros!!! (06/09/13)

Jon Kemmer, a 2009 graduate of Clarion Area High School, a 6’2” leftfielder, has been drafted by Houston Astros, in the 2013 First-Year MLB Draft.

Jon was the first player drafted, in the 21st round and was the 617th player taken overall, falling pretty much in the middle of the draft.

Jon, who starred in both baseball and football for the Bobcats, started his collegiate career at Allegany College in Maryland. He then played for the local Clarion University of Pennsylvania, Golden Eagles.

He finished his collegiate career at Brewton-Parker College, in Georgia, an NAIA school. This past season Jon batted .366 (53 for 145), with 12 homers, 13 doubles and one triple. Jon also had 41 RBIs and scored 30 times.

In recognition of his fine senior season, Jon was named The Southern States Athletic Conference Player of the Year.

Jon was one of nine SSAC players (one of two non-pitchers) selected in this year’s draft.

Jon also played for the Olean Oilers, in The New York Collegiate League, where he was named 2012 MVP. He led the league in Slugging Percentage (.737), On Base Percentage (.554) and RBIs (53).
