Junior High A-Team Drops Close Game To Karns City (02/12/14)

(By Coach Jesse Quinn)

On Friday, February 7th the Clarion Jr High Boys A-Team traveled to Karns City to take on the Gremlins.

The Karns City team that we faced was playing their 21st game and last of their season. They play a schedule that includes games against Ford City, Kittanning, Knoch, and Freeport. At this point in the season they were 19-1.

Our boys played an incredible game, only to fall a little short 43-40 to the Gremlins. They were leading at the half, by 9 points 26-17! In the first half the boys scored the same amount in each of the quarters, 13 points in the first and second. The shot of the half came with 2 seconds left. That’s when Cam Craig hit a half court shot.

The second half, Karns City came out and put on the pressure. They pressed us the entire half and it worked. They limited our team to only 14 points in the second half. We dropped a game for the first time this season. I can’t say enough about the effort our boys gave. The coach of the Gremlins was very complimentary! He commented that “This was the best team we played all year.”

As a coach, I was happy with the way our team played, even though we didn’t come out on top.

The scorers were as follows, Cam Craig had 11, followed by Christian Smith with 8, Spencer Miller and Zach Bauer each added 6, Jimmy Smathers had 4 and Cam Hearst and Nick Cherico put in 2 apiece.

The next game will be Monday, February 10th when we travel to Cranberry to take on the Berries.
