Junior High Boys B-Team Downs A-C Valley (02/20/14)

The Junior High Boys B-Team hosted A-C Valley, on Wednesday, and came away with a 25-19 win.

Coach Jason Craig shares this summary:
This game was a tale of two halves. Clarion once again got off to a slow start, being outscored
7-4 and 5-3, in the first two quarters. A-C Valley went in to halftime with a 12-7 advantage.

However, the Bobcats were determined to keep their winning streak alive. We made some adjustments and came out in the second half in a 1-2-2 half court trap. We have not practiced this type of defense yet, because it seems like every practice is canceled due to weather, but our man-to-man wasn’t getting it done. So, we drew it up on the white board and talked about some of the principles of the trap and they just took off with it. This says a lot about our players, being able to rely on ability and instincts to run this style of defense without practicing first.

Harrison Porter, Clay McElravy, Drew Wrhen, Conner Nichols, and Oscar Suzuki were all able to anticipate passes and intercept them, creating fast break opportunities for us. Archer Mills, Brendan Zerfoss, Isaac Kim, and Gavin Brinkley put pressure on the ball and forced the Falcons to make passes that they didn’t want to make. Our second half defense was the best team defense we have played all season.

The Bobcats pressure defense was able to shut out the Falcons in the third quarter, while scoring 6 points of their own. At the end of three quarters, Clarion now had a 13 – 12 lead. The offense kept it going in the fourth, outscoring the Falcons 12-7 to set the final score at 25-19. The win was indeed the B-Team’s 5th win in a row and improved their record to 5-3 on the season.

Leading the way for the Bobcats in scoring were Drew Wrhen and Archer Mills with 8 points apiece. Gavin Brinkley and Clay McElravy each added 4 points while Oscar Suzuki chipped in with a free throw. For the Falcons, Price lead the way with 6 points, Anderson and Ginn with 4 points, Callandar with 3 and Cullen and Michael each had 1 point.

The Bobcats next game is Friday February 21, as they travel to Moniteau to battle the Warriors.

(Thanks to Coach Craig and keep up the good work guys!!!!)
