It’s been a busy week for Clarion Junior High Wrestlers.  They started the week out with a dual meet against the visiting Sheffield and Curwensville on Tuesday, February 11, 2014.

Clarion vs. Curwensville

Starting things off for Clarion was the lightweights. Login Dehner got the ball rolling with a 15 second pin against Jeremy Irwin of Curwensville. Next up was Riley Slagle who took a forfeit for Clarion to put them ahead 120.

The next few weight classes though would go to Curwensville with Frankie Weber the next wrestler for Clarion at 100 pounds. Frankie wrestled a tough match but fell short with a 10-4 loss against Anthony Winebold. Curwensville then took the lead by a team score of 21-12. That lead wouldn’t last for long though. Ryley McMaster had a huge pin against Avery Rowles at 105 and Greg Duncan won in a tough 2-0 decision over Noah Holt at 110.

Clayton Adams lost a close decision to Dylan Myers by 6-2. Sterling Conner, at 122, pinned his opponent, Ethan Collins in 2 minutes 14 seconds. Colton Rapp took a forfeit at 130 lbs to catapult the team to 33-24 lead.

Up next for Clarion was Josh Krieble at 138. It was an exciting match to watch, but Josh came up just short of a victory with a 9-6 decision. Michael LeFay then took a forfeit at 145 lbs. Dakota Stormier continued to be strong with a 55 second pin over Tristin Bressler.

At 165, Kevin Bradley was pinned by Kaleb Witherite and at 185 Karlin Hiles was pinned by Steve McClure. That tightened up the team score to 45-39. In the last two matches, Curwensville got the forfeit at 210 to tie the team score at 45-45, but Tyler Finefrock received a forfeit at 250 to bring the team to an awesome 51-45 victory over Curwensville.

Coach Weber felt the key match was Greg Duncan, at 110, with a 2-0 decision over a tough Curwensville wrestler. Clayton Adams lost, but only by a decision which kept the team score close. “Great Job Guys!” exclaimed coach Lee Weber.

In exhibition action, Login Dehner won 7-0 and Michael LeFay had a pin against a much bigger wrestler to put the team with a 6-1 record for the season.

Clarion vs. Sheffield

It was an easy shorthanded win against Sheffield who only had 5 wrestlers.

Clarion wrestled strong with a huge pin from Riley Slagle! He pinned Cole DeVrees in 40 seconds. Frankie Weber was up next at 105. He easily pinned his opponent Gage Sheckler with a 36 second fall. Kevin Bradley, sporting some pretty cool Kung Foo moves, continued the pin streak with a 2 minute 24 second pin of Wesley Atwell.

In a tough match, Karlin Hiles came up just short with a 3-2 decision. While Karlin lost a tough match, Coach Weber said, “It was one of his better matches because his opponent was a top quality wrestler.” Karlin is in his first year back after taking a few years off.

Tyler Finefrock rounded out the wrestlers for Clarion with a fall against Austin Gregerson. Winning in exhibition matches were Login Dehner, Ryley McMaster and Michael LeFay.  Junior High now improves to 7-1.
