Junior High Boys B-Team Drops Decision To C-L, Ending Win Streak At Eight (03/01/14)

(By Coach Jason Craig)

On Friday, the Clarion Bobcats hosted the Clarion-Limestone Lions. C-L’s B-Team entered the game undefeated on the season while the Bobcats were riding an 8-game winning streak. Something had to give today.

The first quarter saw back and forth scoring with C-L taking a 6-4 lead. The Lions really turned it on in the second quarter. They outscored Clarion 10-4 with Colby Himes scoring 8 of those points and went in to halftime with a 16-8 advantage.

Both teams had trouble scoring in the third, with Clarion netting just 3 points, while winning the quarter 3-2. Heading into the fourth quarter, C-L had an 18-11 lead. The Bobcats never gave up though. They kept battling to the very end and actually closed the gap to just 1 point, 20-19. After free throws by Himes and Kyle Kerle, the Lions led 22-19. Then with seconds left, Drew Wrhen passed the ball to Brendan Zerfoss and his 3-point attempt to tie the game rattled around and bounced out, securing the 22-19 win for C-L.

It was an exciting conclusion to the game, I thought Brendan’s shot was going in. The boys showed us a lot today, never giving up. C-L has a well-coached, talented team and we took them to the very end. Unfortunately we came up short and our winning streak was snapped at 8 games.

Archer Mills led the way for Clarion with 8 points while Gavin Brinkley added 7 and Jacob Burns chipped in with 4.  Colby Himes had a game high 10 points for the Lions. Zacherl added 5 points, McKinley and A. Wiles each had 2 and Kerle added 1 point.

The Bobcats next play a make-up game on Monday, 3/3 against North Clarion and finish up the season traveling to West Forest on 3/4.
