Bobcat Baseball Team Downs Elkers (04/26/14)

The Clarion Area Baseball Team defeated the homestanding Ridgway Elkers, 10-7,  on Thursday.

The Bobcats scored a run in the top of the first. The Elkers answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning, to take a 2-1 lead. Clarion scored another run in the second and two more in the third, to lead 4-2, but Ridgway scored two in the bottom of the third to knot the score at 4-all.

Both teams scored a run in the fourth, but failed to score in the fifth inning. But the Bobcats pushed 5 runs across, in the sixth, making the score Clarion 10 – Ridgway 5. The Elkers scored 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh, to set the 10-7 final.

Brendan Miller had a big game, going 2 for 3 at the plate, including a double and a triple. He scored 3 runs and stole a base. He was the winning pitcher, throwing a complete game. Miller threw 4 strikeouts and issued only 1 walk, while allowing four earned runs.

For his effort Miller was named the Bobcats’ Player of the Game, by Coach Rob Jewett. Coach Jewett said, “He had great command with all of his pitches and kept a great hitting team in check. Good job Brendan!”

Tanner Corbett went 2 for three, including a double. He had an RBI and scored a run. Matt Verne had 2 hits, driving in two runs. He also scored twice and had a stolen base.

Adrian Weber had one hit and drove in a run. Leo Aiello had one hit and scored once. Derek Lauer had an RBI and a stolen base and Max Lane had an RBI and scored a run. John Katis scored a run.

The Bobcats, now 6-1 on the season, will host Redbank Valley on Tuesday.
