Lady Cats Drop Softball Game To Keystone (04/10/14)
The Lady Cat Softball Team dropped a 19-5, five inning game to the Lady Panthers of Keystone, at Paul A. Weaver Park, on Wednesday.
The Panthers opened by scoring 3 runs, in the top of the first. The Bobcats answered with one of their own, in the bottom of the inning. An 11-3 Keystone scoring advantage in the second moved the score to 14-4.
Each team scored a run in the third and Keystone scored four more runs in the fourth. Neither team scored the rest of the way, setting the 19-5 final.
McKenna Over was 2 for 3, for the Lady Cats, with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Olivia Bartley went 1 for 3 with an RBI. Cora Zerfoss was 1 for 2 with an RBI. Alexa McGill was 1 for 2. Aliya Reed and Johnna Rapp and Erica Peterson each scored a run. Rapp worked the mound for Clarion and recorded 2 strikeouts.
For the Panthers, Amber Hess had a homerun, 3 RBI’s and 3 runs scored and Kari McQuiston had a homer and 4 RBI’s.
After the game, Coach Dan Shofestall said, “I was proud of Johnna and the way she hung in there. We got down early. But she didn’t quit, the team didn’t quit. I was proud of that, also the fact that we’re getting better every time we come out. I’ve seen tremendous improvement.
“I see a lot of desire and a lot of competitive spirit from the girls. That’s what we’re trying to do, come out and get better every night we come out and play.We’ve made great strides. It hasn’t shown in our record yet, but as a team, I’m happy with the strides we’re making. We’ll keep working and we will keep getting better.”
The Lady Cats will host Moniteau on Monday.
