Rotary Moves To 2-0 In Clarion Little League Action (04/28/14)

(Article submitted by Rotary)

Rotary used strong pitching performances from Curvin
Goheen and Calvin German, to improve their record to 2-0 in
Clarion Little League action on Saturday.

Goheen started on the mound for the home team and promptly
struck out the first 2 Delta hitters and induced a pop out
for a 1-2-3 opening inning.

Chase Kriebel was exceptional on the mound for Delta as
well. He started the game off by striking out the first 2
Rotary hitters before Greg Kalinowski reached on an error.
Kriebel ended any Rotary threat by inducing a groundout
and the game was scoreless after 1 inning.

Goheen faced only 4 batters in the top of the 2nd,
striking out all 3 outs with a Brady Fowkes 2 out walk
mixed in. Fowkes was stranded at first.

Kriebel also gathered 3 strikeouts in the 2nd. Hunter
Craddock and Braden Rankin drew walks but were left on
base and the game remained scoreless after 2 innings.

Goheen continued to cruise in the 3rd by striking out the
first 2 Delta hitters. Kriebel then had a 2 out single,
but was erased on an inning ending fielder’s choice.

The scoreboard finally turned in the bottom of the 3rd.
Following a leadoff strkeout, Goheen doubled to right
center. He took third on a passed ball and scored the
game’s first run on another passed ball before Kriebel
collected another strikeout to end the frame. At the
game’s midpoint Rotary had a 1-0 lead.

Bryson Huwar and Cole Slaugenhop gathered back to back
singles to start the 4th inning. Goheen then collected his
8th strikeout, before he was pulled do to pitch count
restrictions. Cal German induced a pop out and a strikeout
to end the inning with 2 Delta runners on base.

Kreibel left the game in the bottom of the 4th and Noah
DiTullio took the mound. He retired the side in order and
the game went to the 5th, with Rotary clinging to a 1-0
lead.

German was dominant, striking out the side in the top of
the 5th, on 12 pitches.

Rotary finally gathered a little breathing room, in the
bottom of the 5th, when it managed to score 3 runs. German
drew a leadoff walk followed by a Goheen single.

Kalinowski then ripped a line drive, which looked like it
was headed for the outfield, before Delta 2nd baseman Brady
Fowkes made a diving play for the out. Travis Devey then
drew a 6 pitch walk, which featured 3 passed balls, 2 of
them scoring German and Goheen. Devey moved to third on a
Hunter Craddock single and scored a pitch later on Hayden
Seigel’s single. Bryson Huwar then induced a popout to end
the 5th inning, but Rotary now had a 4-0 lead.

In the top of the 6th, German surrendered a leadoff single
to DiTullio, who moved to 2nd on a passed ball. After
collecting a groundout, Slaugenhop drew a walk. During the
at bat, DiTullio advanced to third. German then collected
his 5th strikeout of the game. With 2 outs, DiTullio was
able to score a passed ball making the score 4-1. That was
as close as Delta would get though, because German recorded
a pop out to end the game on the next pitch.

Goheen pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowing 0 runs on 3 hits
while striking out 8 and walking 1

German pitched 2 2/3, allowing 1 run on 1 hit striking out
5 and walking 1.
