Bobcats Down Redbank In Freshman Baseball Opener (05/29/14)

The homestanding Clarion Bobcats opened the Freshman Baseball season with a 4-1 win over Redbank Valley, on Tuesday.

The game was scoreless through 4 1/2 innings. The Bobcats pushed two runs across in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the sixth. The Bulldogs’ lone run came in the top of the seventh.

Clarion had six hits and Redbank Valley had three.

For Clarion:

Taylor Smith hit a triple, scored 2 runs and stole two bases. Adrian Weber had a single and an RBI. Leo Aiello had a single, 2 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. Anthony Beveridge had a hit and two stolen bases. Max Lane had a single, an RBI and a stolen base. Derek Lauer singled and Thomas Plumer scored two runs.

Matt Verne and Lane shared the mound duties. Verne went 5 innings, without allowing a run. He gave up 2 hits, while striking out 7, in picking up the win. Verne issued five walks. Lane worked the final two innings, allowing 1 run on one hit. He had 5 strikeouts and allowed gave up three bases on balls.

The Bobcats will be in action on Saturday at Reynolds.
