Win Moves Pizza Pub To 4-2 With Win (05/11/14)

On Friday 5/9, Pizza Pub improved their record to 4 – 2 on the season with a 12 – 5 win over Delta. The Pub jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, sending nine batters to the plate. Nate Datko, Ian Larson and Benny Murtha all singled as the Pub scored 3 runs in the top of the inning. Datko also started on the mound and held Delta scoreless in the home half of the first.
Following a walk by Josh Craig, Datko increased the lead with a 2-run bomb to center field, the lone hit for the Pub in the inning. Datko kept throwing well in the bottom of the second, only giving up a single to Chase Kriebel. After 2 innings, the Pub held a 5 – 0 lead.
Pizza Pub kept the hitting going in the third inning. Connor Kromer, Craig, and Datko all singled in the frame, but the big hit came off the bat of Ian Larson. He banged out a triple and the Pub scored 5 runs in the inning.
Datko’s day on the mound was over after 2 innings. He gave up a single and struck out 5 batters. Craig took over in the third inning, giving up singles to Huwar and Fowkes before striking out three batters to end the inning. At the end of the 3rd, Pizza Pub was up 10 -0.
Mitch Knepp started the 4th inning off with a single, but the Pub was unable to do anything else. Delta battled back and, with three consecutive singles by Kriebel, Noah DiTullio and Huwar, scored two runs to end the 4th inning 10 -2.
In the top of the 5th, Craig and Datko each doubled and Larson followed with a single as the Pub scored 2 more runs. Delta kept hitting in the home half of the 5th. Michael Peterson led off with a double and was chased around by Kriebel who had a double of his own. With singles by Huwar and Fowkes, Delta put up 3 more runs in the inning.
Murtha closed the game out on the mound for the Pub and had a solid pitching performance, retiring the side in order in the 6th inning with 2 strikeouts. Neither team would score in the 6th and the game ended 12 – 5 in favor of the Pizza Pub.
Pub batters banged out 12 hits. Datko was 4-4 with a homerun, double and 2 singles. Larson had a triple and 2 singles.
Craig had a double and a single while Kromer, Mutha and Knepp each singled. Pub pitchers were able to strike out 14 batters while walking only 4.
Delta batters managed 10 hits. The offense was led by Kriebel and Huwar with 3 hits apiece. Fowkes had 2 hits while DiTullio and Peterson each added 1. The Delta pitchers were able to strikeout 13 Pub hitters while walking 4.
