Bobcat Freshman Team Wins Two (06/12/14)

The Clarion Area Freshman Baseball Team came up with two road wins recently, downing Cranberry 8-5, on Saturday, and defeating A-C Valley 8-3, on Tuesday.

Clarion opened Saturday’s game with three runs, in the top of the first. The Berries plated four runs in the bottom of the third and another, in the fifth, to lead 5-3. But the Cats came back to tie the game, at 5-all, in the top of the sixth and sealed the victory with three runs, in the seventh.

Derek Lauer led the Bobcats with two doubles and a single. He drove in four runs and scored twice. Thomas Plummer had two singles and a double and scored twice.

Adrian Weber had a hit, with an RBI and a run scored. Anthony Beveridge singled and scored once. Kysaac Smith had had a hit and two RBIs, Max Lane also singled and Leo Aiello scored two runs and stole a base.

Weber and Lauer shared the mound duties. Weber worked three innings, allowing five runs on four hits. He struck out five and walked seven. Lauer went four innings, giving up just one hit, while striking out three and walking one.

The Bobcats put up points in each of the first three innings, on Tuesday, scoring two, in the first, three, in the second and two, in the third.  After tacking on another run in the fifth, they held an 8-0 lead. The Falcons scored two, in the sixth and one, in the seventh to set the 8-3 final.

Lane, Taylor Smith and Weber each had two hits, with Lane driving in two runs and scoring twice, Smith scoring once and Weber also scoring once and driving in two runs. Beveridge contributed a single. He drove in a run and scored once. Aiello singled and crossed the plate once. Kysaac Smith and Brady Himes each scored once and Plummer had an RBI.

Weber, Himes, Beveridge, Aiello, Lane, Taylor Smith and Kysaac Smith each stole a base for the Bobcats.
